HOUSE INITIATIVES: JAN
Welcome to the House Initiatives voting post!

Any questions about the missions can be asked in the mod questions thread.
Questions about the general game mechanics, setting or locations, or magic can be asked on their respective pages.
To vote, just read the initiatives presented below and then reply to the comment header for the House your character wishes to vote for. Every character gets a vote.
Initiatives will affect both events and the types of missions that are available and will be focused on as gamewide projects for the next two months, thereby allowing player characters to cause a concrete change to the world.

THE INITIATIVES


☆ HOUSE STONE proposes that the residents of the valley focus on securing the perimeter of the current grounds of the Ivory Castle, which has been under attack by various animals from the wilds outside the grounds. These animals have been stalking and attacking both people and some of the currently tamed animals living in pens built by residents near the edges of the grounds. Securing the perimeter would mean risking attack from these animals, but would provide protection for both residents and tamed animals via barricades and magical barriers. House Stone is suggesting that this initiative comes with a stipulation that participants try to avoid killing the monsters.

☆ HOUSE SUN proposes an in-depth study of the plants and animals in the area. This would involve scouting the surrounding land and taking extensive notes and samples of soil, plants, stones, moss, and other natural phenomenon as well as sketching pictures of wild animals. The initiative would necessitate groups of people spending several days out in the wilds gathering information, sketching, and living off the land, at risk of wild animals and exposure.

☆ HOUSE RIVER proposes that the residents of the valley focus on thoroughly scouting and mapping a new area of fertile land that looks like a promising area to start growing crops come spring. The area in question seems, from afar, to be a lush, flat area already growing some kind of thick grass, surrounded by thickets of trees perfect to use to build and for shelter. The area is about quite large - around 220 acres - just perfect for a small family farm. Scouting the area would mean risking exposure to wild animals, spending several nights out in the wilds, and mapping the area so that plans can be made to settle the area.

☆ HOUSE LIFE proposes an overhaul, inventory, and restocking of the greenhouses. This would mean going out into the wilds to find edible herbs, berries, tubers, and other plants that might be useful to the population and bringing back seeds to be planted in the greenhouses. It would also necessitate an inventory of the current plants in the greenhouses and possibly replanting and repotting existing plants to better facilitate their growth.

MISSIONS: JANUARY
Welcome to the monthly missions post! Missions are completely optional.

Any questions about the missions can be asked in the mod questions thread.
Questions about the general game mechanics, setting or locations, or magic can be asked on their respective pages.
To claim a mission, just reply to the entry with a note about the missions you intend to claim, and what your character is planning to do, then tag around and see if others want to work on the missions with you!
While missions are more writing prompts than requirements, each mission will have a thread where you can notify the mod if you've threaded with a mission and the mod will give your character little surprise IC treats as rewards!

THE MISSIONS


This month's missions are focused on securing some of the basics that will be needed for making the valley more self-sustaining, and training people with skills they'll need to continue doing so!

☆ MAGIC LESSONS Magic lessons will be continuing throughout January, and will be ongoing. Most of these classes will focus on simple elemental magic related to each House, and on creating items in a variety of ways that will be useful to characters, whether they're tools, weapons, or sentimental items. More information on magic in Serentali and what kind of spells and focuses each House has can be found on the Magic Page.

☆ SKILLSHARE Characters are invited to set up a class to teach any kind of useful skill they might have from home with other characters! Did you keep a garden, study magic, know how to build a structure or fence, cook, knit, sew, or do anything else that might be useful for other characters to know? Set up a class and teach others!

☆ GREENHOUSE HARVEST There are about 10 large greenhouses in the back courtyard of the Ivory Castle, and now that the pests have been mostly cleared out by the new arrivals, there are a wide variety of plants in five of them that are ready for harvest. But not all of them are going to be harvested to be stored for meals. Any character who is willing to help out with harvesting seeds to be planted in the remaining five greenhouses will be given a quick lesson on how to do so and set free to gather seeds and replant them in the five empty greenhouses.

☆ BUILDING MATERIALS For those who don't yet have a lot of skills developed for more fine-tuned activities, there is a bit of plain old-fashioned labor that needs to be done! Get those muscles warmed up and cut down trees, dig up stones, and otherwise gather building materials.

☆ PLANS OF ACTION One of the NPCs has some simple designs set up for building barns and animal pens, but no real idea how to do it in practice. What they really need is for people to pore over these plans and make sure they're buildable, then make tools to be used to build them. Characters can use magic or plain old elbow grease to make hammers, nails, saws, and other tools (Earth magic is helpful for this!) to help build the pens and barns that might be needed, because...

☆ THE TAMING Roaming in the valley are various large herds of wild horses and wild cattle. These animals, while wild, are not terribly afraid of humans or other sentient races. With a careful approach and a bit of gentle touch (and maybe a little bit of animal magic), these animals may be persuaded to spend some time with characters. And after a bit of time is spent, they might even be willing to bond with characters and come to live in barns or animal pens that characters have built.

MOD POST
Hey everyone, just a really quick mod post!

1. I won't be bothering with AC for December because it was a partial month and a holiday month! The first activity check for the game will be in January, due by January 31. As always, activity check is check-in with a quick description of what your character has been up to.

2. I know we're small but hopefully no one is worrying I'm going to close down because it didn't explode immediately! I'm giving it some time to get a sustainable player base (around 15 characters), at least until the end of February. Holiday season is a rough time to start a game and I knew that going into this, so I wasn't expecting an explosion or anything! Hopefully we'll have more people soon.
